BBP NETWORK,DHAKA: At least 26 teachers and students were injured in a head-on collision between a lorry and a Cox’s Bazar- bound picnic bus on the Chattogram -Cox’s Bazar highway under Lohagara upazila of the district early today (Feb 3).
The injured were identified as Yashir Uddin, 45, Sajib, 21, Anisur Rahman, 35, Tanvir, 20, Harunur Rashid, 28, Lokman Hakim, 40, Shamim, 24, Mubarak, 40, Pilu, 25, Sampa, 25, Abu Kaushar, 25, Md. Raju, 24, Anwar, 25, Rasel, 24, Rana, 25, Siraj, 26, Roni, 23, Hasan, 25, Hriday, 24, Mamun, 25, Sajib, 25, Zakir, 24, and Anwar, 25.
According to police sources, the bus was going on an excursion to Cox’s Bazar with teachers and students of the Political Science Department of Netrakona Government College.
Chattogram District Police Sub-Assistant Inspector (ASI) Alauddin Talukdar confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
He said the accident occurred when a bus of Saukhin Paribahan collided head-on with a salt-laden lorry in Chonoti area around 5:30 am, leaving 26 teachers and students critically injured.
Locals rushed the wounded to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) around 9:30 am today. Among them, three are in serious condition, he said.
Both the vehicles were seized but their drivers managed to flee the scene, he added.
